Icon Building Group was founded in 2008 by Charlie and Jenny Murphy. They started in Hawthorn Woods with a small team, a longer-than-necessary list of trade partners they wanted to work with the right way, and one belief: that the family across the table deserved the same answer we'd want if our family were sitting in their chair.
Eighteen years and four hundred homes later, that belief hasn't moved. Custom homes since 2008; the renovation division, formalized in 2018, has completed 170-plus projects since. The team has grown. The communities we serve have multiplied. The standard hasn't.
Today the team is larger and the towns we build in have multiplied. The people who answer the phone still know your name and your home. The work is the same. The promise is the same.

Our portfolio spans every tier of luxury remodeling and custom building across eight counties — Lake, Cook, DuPage, McHenry and Kane in Illinois, and Kenosha, Walworth and Racine in Wisconsin — and more than 75 municipalities, from Vernon Hills, Hawthorn Woods, Kildeer, Long Grove and Lincolnshire to Highland Park, Lake Forest, Northbrook, Barrington and Crystal Lake, north to Fontana on Geneva Lake. That includes 150-plus residences renovated for one repeat client at Monarch Landing in Naperville. We design and build under one roof, in partnership with the architects and designers who put their reputations next to ours.
